The most anticipated fashion event of the year, the Met Gala, has left us dazzled yet again. The 2023 edition showcased some of the most striking and daring ensembles to grace the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 1st.

Lagerfeld's uniform became an iconic symbol of his status in the fashion world itself. So, the invitation to the Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala simply stated; dress in honor of Karl. This left the guests (and their designers) in much anticipation to craft a look befitting to celebrate the creative genius Karl was.

1. Anna Hathaway

Anna Hathaway stunned onlookers at the Met Gala, exuding elegance in a creamy wedding-worthy gown that was truly a masterpiece. The gold-threaded white tweed material hugged her body in all the right places, creating a stunning silhouette that was both elegant and edgy.

The intricate cutouts, held together by pearl and Medusa-adorned safety pins, gave the dress an inherently Versace effect. Camellias adorned the bust, adding a touch of softness to the overall look.

2. Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa made an early entrance in a cream-colored Chanel gown from the fashion house's FW '92 collection, accompanied by an awe-inspiring diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co. valued at over $10 million. Her fashion sense was on point with a white and black tweed ballgown from Chanel.

To complement her vintage look, Dua Lipa wore a silver pendant Tiffany & Co. necklace and styled her black hair with gentle waves. The singer looked like a real-life princess, perfectly embodying the theme of the night while also honoring the museum's new exhibit Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.

3. Lily Collins

The Emily in Paris actor showed up in a custom Vera Wang light ivory and black silk lingerie-inspired gown. It featured a white bustier top, puffed sleeves, and a black centered-slit skirt that added drama to the ensemble with Karl written in silver sequins at the elongated train. 

Despite some criticism that the dress was cheezy; Lily set up a bold statement that paid right homage to the elegance of 80's Chanel looks that Karl would send down the runway.

4. Naomi Campbell

Supermodel Naomi made a grand entrance draped in a salmon-pink, saree-inspired gown from Chanel's 2010 couture collection. The metallic blouse with silver embroidered trimmings creeping up the bodice was a statement in itself.

While the silver arm cuffs, and matching earrings added a touch of modernity to the traditional Indian outfit. Campbell's poker-straight hair and dewy makeup with metallic pink highlights complemented the ensemble perfectly.

5. Rihanna

Rihanna was an ethereal vision at Met Gala 2023 fashion night commanding attention in a custom Valentino Haute Couture silk faille dress that was nothing short of breathtaking. The billowing train and cape, adorned with 30 giant camellia appliqués, were a nod to bridal-inspired gown but Riri managed to pull off the look with her effortless grace & poise.

She leaned into the evening drama with a hooded puffer jacket which she later shed to reveal a form-fitting white dress that hugged her baby bump.

6. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman turned heads in a 19 year old light pink Chanel Haute Couture gown which she wore in an iconic Chanel ad campaign. Embellished with 250 pink ostrich feathers and shimmered with over 3,000 silver crystals and sequins, lending an air of regal elegance to her already glamorous Met Gala look.

The color pink was clearly a favorite of the Lagerfeld’s. And Kidman's decision to wear it was a subtle nod to their longstanding friendship.

7. Doja cat

Doja Cat had a perfectly creative interpretation of the evening's dress code & paid homage to the late designer by channeling his beloved fur friend, Choupette.

The rapper sported a hooded gown by Oscar de la Renta, featuring cat ears on the hood, a mermaid silhouette that extended into white feathered train, all embellished with over 350,000 silver and white bugle beads. To complement her feline-inspired look, Doja wore a diamond headpiece underneath the hood & a delicate diamond chain arm cuff.

Met Gala’s regular, bold rapper Cardi B exited the show with a dramatic and powerful outfit that showcased her high-fashion taste. The outfit featured a white shirt collar and tie that blended perfectly into a black sweetheart bodice adorned with silver studs that sparkled a touch of edginess to the overall Met Gala look.

The full black skirt was a masterpiece with a quilted overlay, huge sculptural rosettes, and matching black opera gloves. Her chic silver-toned bob with flipped ends and sleek leather hairband completed the look.
